Ah, the summer. The perfect time to go to the beach to get some refreshing “me time” that helps you relax and zone out for a little while. As you lie there on the sand and feel the blazing sun on your skin, don’t you feel your worries melting away into the horizon, at least that’s what I feel after a few beers by the poolside.
There are awesome beaches around the world, but one that has always caught my attention is Cancun. A place that combines culture, beautiful beaches, luxurious hotels, and awesome nightlife. Yes, it may be the most frequent holiday spot for spring breakers or for those tourists hellbent on wearing socks with sandals, but the truth is that it is a great destination that promises great experiences. However, there are certain things that you should know if you truly want to take advantage of your holidays in Cancun. In my honest opinion these are five suggestions you should bear in mind.
Only go to the main beaches if you can stand a crowd
While Ballenas Beach is an excellent place to hang around if you’re willing to mingle with other tourists and take part of recreational family activities, you shouldn’t do it unless you’re good with crowds. If you’d rather spend a quieter, more private time with your friends, it’s better to visit beaches such as Cheyumil. There you’ll enjoy the white sands and the turquoise waters. We all need some peace and quiet from time to time.
Rent a car
Since taxis in Cancun are used to having a tourist clientele, their prices have skyrocketed throughout the years. If you’re not willing to spend half your trip’s budget in transportation, it’s better to rent a car. Besides, this will give you the opportunity to visit the magnificent ruins of Chichen Itza, an amazing Mayan site that’s just two hours away.
Avoid clubbing excessively
If you’re the party type, you’ll probably have a great time in the epic clubs Cancun has to offer. However, you shouldn’t go out every night of your holiday if that’s not your full plan. As fun as it may be to go dancing out with a bunch of wild tourists that are on the same channel as you, Cancun is a place filled with natural and cultural wonders that you’d be a fool to skip.
Check the weather forecast before you decide the dates
Spending time in Cancun is not just your regular summer trip, it can be an extraordinary experience you’ll never forget, but for that you need to have the weather on your side. Obviously, Cancun has for the most time, brilliant weather, but it is also prone to hurricanes and storms. The rainy season in Mexico begins in June so make sure you check the weather forecast before you book your holidays. I suggest you go during spring because that is when the weather is at its peak.
