What would awards ceremonies be without surreal situations? And that, precisely, is what happened tonight during the Grammys. The American rapper and producer, Jay-Z criticized the award for never having recognized his wife, the singer Beyoncé, the award for Best Album of the Year, while he was on stage accepting the distinction of the Global Impact Grammy Award.

How far have we come with Will Smith, The Fresh Prince winning his first Grammy in ’89 and boycotting it, because it wasn’t televised? “And then they went to a hotel to watch the Grammys. I don’t even understand, it wasn’t a big boycott. But then in ’98, I took a page from his book and got nominated for best rap album.
And DMX released two, both were number one, and he wasn’t nominated at all. So I boycotted and watched. I’m just saying, we want them to do it right. We love them, we love them. We want them to get it right, or at least close to right. And obviously, it’s subjective, because it’s music and it’s opinion-based, but some things…” he said.
Afterward, he looked at his wife and said, “I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than anyone, the number one album of the year. So even by that metric, it doesn’t work. Think about this, the one with the most Grammys has never won album of the year, that doesn’t work.”
And later he assured me that “when I get nervous, I tell the truth.”
The businessman’s criticism comes hours after the Canadian rapper Drake, through his social networks, attacked the award ceremony, of which he assured that “the show was not reality, but the opinion of a group of people.” Beyoncé throughout her career has been nominated 88 times for the Grammy Award, of which she has won 32, being the most nominated and awarded artist, along with her husband Jay-Z.
