Disney former employee accused of hacking menus - if you can dream it, you can hack it! Disney former employee accused of hacking menus with profanity

They’d better be more careful… A former Disney World employee, Michael Scheuer, has been accused of hacking into the theme park’s menu system and altering allergen information, among other changes.

Scheuer, who was fired in June for alleged misconduct, reportedly used his personal computer to access the menu software, known as Menu Creator, and make unauthorized modifications.

The criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida alleges that Scheuer made several changes that threatened public health, including removing warnings for people with peanut allergies.

This alteration could have potentially dangerous consequences for individuals with severe peanut allergies.

In addition to changing allergen information, Scheuer is also accused of altering menu prices, adding profanity, and changing menu fonts to symbols instead of letters.

He allegedly targeted 14 Disney employees’ computer accounts, even visiting the residence of one of the victims. Scheuer’s actions are estimated to have caused at least $150,000 in damages.

Disney became aware of the issues with the menu software in July and determined that the problems were due to unauthorized computer intrusions.

The company provided the FBI with information about Scheuer, who had detailed knowledge of the Menu Creator software. The FBI executed a search warrant at Scheuer’s home in September and seized several of his electronic devices, finding evidence tying him to the hacks.

Scheuer has denied any wrongdoing and claimed that Disney was attempting to frame him. His attorney, David Haas, stated that Scheuer has a disability that impacted his employment at Disney and that the company failed to respond to his inquiries about his suspension and termination.
