Newly released photos submitted in Combs’ federal sex-trafficking and racketeering trial show Ventura visibly injured after an alleged 2016 assault at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City. The selfie, taken in an Uber, shows the singer wearing sunglasses and a hoodie—an attempt, she says, to hide a swollen mouth after fleeing one of Combs’ so-called “Freak-Offs.”
It’s a chilling visual that adds weight to the testimony she gave just last week. And in a trial already defined by disturbing video evidence, these images may be a tipping point.
What Happened the Night Cassie Tried to Escape, According to the Diddy Trial
According to Ventura’s testimony, the assault happened as she attempted to sneak away from a violent gathering while Combs was in the shower. She said she feared for her safety but also didn’t want to miss the premiere for the “biggest thing” she’d ever done.
“He grabbed me up, threw me on the ground, kicked me, tried to drag me back to the room, took my stuff,” she told the jury.
At the time, Combs reportedly told her via text that he was “getting arrested.” But when her best friend Kerry Morgan called the police, Ventura refused to file a report. Why?
“To protect him,” she said.

Cassie Ventura’s Photo—and the Aftermath That Followed
The image, now part of the court’s evidence, captures a bruised and shaken Ventura post-attack.
“That’s me, a selfie of me with a fat lip,” she told jurors.
What followed was a painful back-and-forth. She said she couldn’t recall how many times Combs had thrown her to the ground over the course of their relationship:
“Too many to count. I don’t know.”
In November 2023, Ventura sued Combs for years of abuse and rape—settling less than 24 hours later for $20 million. Since then, Combs has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including sex trafficking by force, racketeering conspiracy, and coercion.

The video sparked outrage and pushed Combs to post a public apology for what he called “inexcusable behavior.”
But now, the selfie—the swollen lip, the hoodie, the sunglasses—adds a new layer of heartbreak.
