In terms of audience, it would seem that the popularity of telenovelas has declined compared to its golden years. However, producers are bringing them back with remakes that are more relatable for modern audiences (though the classics are still amazing).

With a series format called “The Collection,” this new project started with one of the most popular stories of all time, La Usurpadora. It’s a story about twins who switch lives, and for this remake, the face of the good and the evil twin is none other than rising star Sandra Echeverría. Now, though she’s been quite popular and prolific in the past years, this role has definitely positioned her as one of the favorites, not only for the company, but also, audiences. So, who is she?

1. She’s a Chilanga

Sandra Echeverría was born in Mexico City in 1984. Her father is Mexican, and her mother from the Dominican Republic.

2. She started out as a pop star

Though she’s settled her career as an actress, Sandra actually started in the music industry when she joined a band called Perfiles (that eventually changed the name to Crush). The band recorded two albums and toured all over Mexico and Latin America.

6. Her Hollywood debut was with John Travolta

Her album did okay, but it was clear that her fans appreciated her acting more, and finally, later that year she was cast by Oliver Stone for the movie Savages, where she shared the screen with actors like Salma Hayek, John Travolta, Benicio del Toro, and Blake Lively.
