My Brain Cries And My Body Explodes

At times, our body has its own way of expressing what we feel. It speaks for us when we cannot find the strength to speak of what hurts us.

The following poem by Andrea Ramírez exposes that feeling and dives into that phenomenon, seeing it as a leap of faith or an unavoidable moment.

“My Brain Cries and My Body Explodes”

Lights won’t turn on or off

memories won’t leave

that moment, that day

returned to me like a gust in a dream.

That street, that place.

The cold, I remember it froze

while also bringing us together.

Perfumed and tired,

With coats covering our bodies.

You’re surrounded by people you don’t know

the city watches you wander

not knowing where you’ll go.

The memory takes hold,

the sun remains hidden,

the wind keeps chasing.

You stay still

stop writing

yet you don’t stop thinking

o v e r t h i n k i n g.

What heals in silence,

is immediate accumulation.

My brain cries

and my body explodes.

I remember, or maybe I imagined,

seeing their blurred face in a dream.

Perhaps it was an untaken picture

like a modified memory,

that came from dreams and desire.
