Some would think that a-list celebrities have everything figured out and a privileged and hedonistic life. However, the attention and fame don’t always make it easy for them to follow that dream lifestyle. Jennifer Lopez has recently opened up about the challenges of being part of one of the most popular couples in the past decades.
Promoting her upcoming album and accompanying film, This Is Me… Now, Jennifer Lopez talked to Variety about the nature of the project and the involvement of her current husband Ben Affleck in it. Unless you live under a rock, we’ve all seen the recently married couple aren’t precisely on cloud nine. On so many occasions, Ben Affleck has been captured in a terrible mood while in public, and JLo’s recent comments might explain this.
Jennifer Lopez revealed that both of them still experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from all the media frenzy they experienced when they first dated more than twenty years ago. Bennifer, as they were called by the media, was constantly chased and questioned about every move they made. This constant harassment eventually had a toll on the relationship, and the couple decided to call the wedding off in 2003.
Almost 20 years later, they rekindled their love and decided to get married shortly after in 2022. Jennifer Lopez’s album and film focus on their love story and marriage. Making the project was hard for both of them to the point that even some of her team doubted it would be a great idea to display their private life on film. However, despite the PTSD, they are handling the press much better.
“We’re older” and “we’re wiser. We also know what’s important, what’s important in life, and it’s not so much what other people think. It’s about being true to who you are,” said Lopez to Variety. Regarding documenting their love life, she simply added: “As artists, we have to follow our heart and this is me following my heart and doing something that maybe everybody didn’t think was the best idea, but I had to do it.”
