Nick Jonas had a frightening moment while performing with the Jonas Brothers at the O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic, on Tuesday night (Oct. 15).
The video of Nick has gone viral, with fans expressing concern for his safety and pointing out how cruel these behaviors are towards artists.
Nick Jonas Runs Offstage in Prague After Laser Points at Him

In videos circulating on social media, Jonas is seen sitting at the piano, preparing to perform “A Little Bit Longer.” Suddenly, he runs off stage and down the aisle, making a “time out” gesture with his hands. According to Variety, the show was paused for a few minutes due to a “prohibited laser pointer,” but the trio returned to the stage and continued performing shortly after.

Fans who attended the show said that after the incident, it took a few minutes for the brothers to return to the stage and finish the concert as planned.
So far, none of the Jonas Brothers have addressed the incident on their social media, but the video of Nick has gone viral, with fans expressing concern for his safety.
“Safety always comes first, and Nick Jonas made the right call. No artist should ever feel threatened while performing. It’s a reminder to respect boundaries and prioritize everyone’s well-being.” “Why would someone do this and ruin the show for everyone?” “I’m glad Nick took precautions, and I hope security handled it quickly,” were some of the comments left by fans on social media.
The Spectacle Society: Has Respect for Living Beings Disappeared?
This incident made me think of Moo Deng, the baby hippo who went viral on TikTok. After becoming an internet sensation, people from all over the world flocked to see the little animal. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for visitors to start throwing objects and even water at Moo Deng to wake her from her naps in an attempt to get her attention.
“These behaviors are not only cruel but also dangerous,” said Narongwit Chodchoi, the zoo’s director. “We must protect these animals and ensure that they have a safe and comfortable environment.”
Besides breaking my heart, this behavior made me reflect on the lack of respect and empathy some spectators have toward living beings, whether they’re viral internet stars or entertainers.
Nick Jonas likely thought he was in immediate danger, but this isn’t the first time an artist has been targeted by a laser pointer or even injured by objects thrown on stage.
Guy Debord, in his book The Society of the Spectacle, explains that we are consumed by thousands of images for our entertainment, which shape the reality we live in.
“As indispensable embellishment of currently produced objects, as general articulation of the system’s rationales, and as advanced economic sector that directly creates an ever-increasing mass of image-objects, the spectacle is the leading production of present-day society.” – Guy Debord
But how did we got here? Seems like respect is no longer in the picture, and performers and even little baby animals are conditioned to be seen as objects in a never-ending cycle.
Also, living something like this can be traumatizing. Life threats at concerts should never be taken lightly, just like when Taylor Swift had to cancel shows after receiving threats of a terrorist attack from ISIS.
I can’t even begin to imagine how sad and frightened I would feel if I was just trying to do my job and that the mere action could put my life at risk.
So, at what point did we start seeing humans as mere entertainment? Could it be linked to how we consume information through social media(a.k.a TikTok, X)? There is a lot to think about, and we wish Nick Jonas is doing alright. After all, who knows if society will ever learn about empathy, but we can only contribute by speaking out and standing up for those in need.
