Billie Eilish opened up to Interview Magazine with Lana Del Rey after the release of her new album.
In the interview, Billie is asked about how the public has received the second song from the album ‘Lunch‘, in which she narrates a longing for a girl who could be the one, it is an energetic track, inspired by the exploration of her sexuality.
“I’m pretty aware of what people will say. It’s so weird to grow up and change in front of the world. The craziest part is discovering things about myself and then suddenly, everyone else knows, and I don’t even have a second to think about how it makes me feel,” the artist said.

She also expressed how “frustrating” it is to can’t even “defend or explain yourself.”
“Every time I’ve gotten past the point of frustration and end up explaining myself, it’s only gotten worse. That caused me to prematurely state things that I don’t even feel confident or comfortable knowing about myself. And suddenly, I’m saying them publicly, and everyone’s like, “Oh, that’s who she is.” And I’m like, “You are making me feel like I am not allowed to grow and change.” It’s so fucking scary, because everything is written in stone.”
Although the experiences of self-discovery are different for everyone, and especially if you don’t live in a context of fame, it’s still a challenge for LGBTQ+ people to live without being questioned by society and feeling that they must respond with the 100% correct answer that could never be changed.
‘Hit me hard and soft’ trip

“Hit Me Hard and Soft” album, explores the uncertainty of self-discovery from the first song, “Skinny,” in which the singer questions whether she’s living up to her age and expresses her sense of feeling trapped in certain circumstances.
This album, as it’s name says, goes from hard to soft over and over, and just when you think where the song is going, Billie surprises you and ends up being just the opposite.

“Hit Me Hard and Soft” is the strongest Eilish has ever recorded, no longer singing almost exclusively in beautiful, hushed, tones beneath groundbreaking, sweeping production.
Clearly, she has gained the self-confidence to stand above the mix. She is clearly motivated by a desire for freedom.
Billie Eilish sexuality
In a Rolling Stone interview, Billie confessed:
“I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand—until, last year, I realized I wanted my face in a vagina.”
“I didn’t realize people didn’t know. I just don’t really believe in it. I’m just like, ‘Why can’t we just exist?’ I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I just didn’t talk about it.” she expressed after the Rolling Stone’s interview came out.

It’s true that in many cases, when an artist comes out of the closet, there are usually many malicious or even hateful comments, however, Billie has received all the support and love she deserves even though she “had to” come out, which is no longer cool in 2024.
