Today is International ASMR Day. ASMR makes us feel relaxed and helps with the overall mood. Some people experience a tingling sensation after hearing specific sounds.

About ASMR
ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. It is a sensory reaction some people experience when they listen to specific auditory triggers.
People who experience the reaction can feel a delightful, tingling sensation on the skin that brings a feeling of relaxation.
Who started it?
It all started back in October 19, 2007 when an user asked a question on an online discussion forum for health-related subjects called “Steady Health.” The user described a feeling or sensation compared to tracing fingers along the body or hair, that was triggered via non-haptic events like being read a story. A lot of people related to this feeling, and the term ASMR was soon brought up.
Benefits
According to one study, about 41% of people turn to ASMR to help them fall asleep (McErlean & Banissy, 2017). This possibly relates to ASMR’s ability to induce intense feelings of relaxation, and helps those suffering from insomnia. A.S.M.R. can also help reduce heart rate.
Another study found that approximately 11% of people watch ASMR videos for the purpose of reducing anxiety (McErlean & Banissy, 2017). Many people report experiencing a sense of well-being after watching ASMR videos, as well as temporary relief from depressed moods (Barratt & Davis, 2015).
Of course this doesn’t apply to everyone, as some people may feel negatively triggered by this videos and sounds, but either you want to hear Shia Labeouf’s motivational whisper, or you feel like being softly patched up by a criminal, you can always look up for some weird ones on the internet!
