It’s confirmed. There will be more of Malcolm in the Middle and we still can’t believe it. Bryan Cranston announced that they are working on a sequel to the series with which we all (even if they deny it) came to identify. The actor who gave life to Hal, father of the ‘little devils,’ attended the program Watch What to talk about his participation in Asteroid City, by Wes Anderson, and incidentally, gave us the best news ever!
Bryan rated an 8 on the possibility that Malcolm in the Middle is back, either as a film or in its original format, which is the series. “Yeah, I’d say on a scale of 1 to 10, I’d say an 8 that we’ll do a reunion or a movie or a show or something like that. And yes, we’re working on story concepts, plots, and things like that,” said Cranston, who recently announced his retirement from acting.
So probably, this project would be the one with which he says goodbye, and what better way to do it, since his character became one of the favorites of this series that premiered on January 9, 2000.
But What Happened to the Cast of Malcolm in the Middle?
More than 20 years have passed since we witnessed this story that caught us from the first moment because although it seemed like a joke and irony, it portrayed situations that many families identified with (although sometimes a little exaggerated).
Today, the generations that grew up watching this production directed by Bryan Cranston himself, take as a reference many of the phrases and scenes of the series, although we have also wondered about what happened to the actors who won our laughter and applause, as we have seen some of them in the frame, others have disappeared.
Bryan Cranston / Hal
The actor who played Hal, the loving and supportive father in the series, recently announced his retirement from acting. Before this, he surprised everyone with his starring role in Breaking Bad, where he played Walter White, a professor who ends up involved in drug manufacturing. This role was surprising because it managed to end the tender and friendly image we had of him from Malcolm in the Middle. He is also part of the cast of Asteroid City, Wes Anderson’s most recent project.

Frankie Muniz / Malcolm
Frankie was in charge of playing Malcolm, the boy genius with few friends, but great creativity to make mischief along with his brothers. For a long time, it was said that the actor had lost his memory, a rumor that he later clarified and denied. After the series, he devoted himself to journalism and now to motor racing. He married Page Price, and in 2021 he became a father.
Jane Kaczmarek / Lois
Jane gave life to Lois, the mom in this series that everyone hated for her strict way of being, but also loved for the same reason. She continued in the acting world and participated in some series like The Big Bang Theory, This is Us, Help Me Help You, Whitney, and Raising the Bar. However, something that got fans very excited was when she appeared in the alternate ending of Breaking Bad, which suggests that it was all about Hal’s nightmare.

Christopher Masterson / Francis
Christopher Masterson, best known for his role as Francis in Malcolm in the Middle, seduced us with his way of being so rebellious and so creative when it came to mischief, which seemed more like mischief. But also for blaming his mother for everything. She was the ‘black sheep’ of the family and always got everyone in trouble. After shining in the series, Christopher Masterson appeared in some productions like Scary Movie 2, Wuthering Heights, The Masquerade, Made for Each Other, and White Collar. He almost became Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean, but Orlando Bloom kept the role. Currently, he is a DJ and joined the Scientology faith.

Justin Berfield / Reese
How could we forget that bully in Malcolm’s family, the kid that few tolerated because he was so distracted and aggressive, although he hid a gentle side with a huge passion for cooking? That was Reese, played by Justin Berfield. After appearing in the series, Justin became co-founder and creative director of the British Virgin Group division. He now oversees a product development and packaging team for films and television commercials related to his brand, Virgin.
Erik Per Sullivan / Dewey
Who doesn’t remember Dewey, that little boy played by Erik Per Sullivan, who captivated us from beginning to end with his wit, intelligence, and innocence? He became one of the favorite characters of the series thanks to the tenderness he exuded; however, he preferred to put a stop to his career as an actor and pursue his own dreams. He is dedicated to music and excels in instruments such as saxophone and piano. Little is known about the good Dewy, but we are grateful to have known him. Without a doubt, a key player in the series.

Craig Lamar Traylor / Stevie
Malcolm’s only friend was Stevie, the child genius in a wheelchair who always supported him, even in the worst follies. This character was played by Craig Lamar, who, after he participated in Malcolm in the Middle, went into artistic jewelry and makeup.

This is what is known so far about some of the main characters of the series, what remains to be seen is who will participate in the sequel and when the project will be ready, which will surely become one of the most anticipated.
