The Oscars Will Add a New Category; Finally Something Is Fair in the Academy

Finally, we see something relatively fair in the academy and the Oscars awards, since cast directors are incredibly necessary for the creation of a new film, we would not have an iconic Michael Corleone without the choice of Al Pacino, nor a Bella Swan in ‘Twilight’ without the choice of Kristen Stewart, and so we can go with each of the movies that we like, that have had characters that mark our lives and that make the movies what they are.

That is why in the upcoming 96th edition of the Oscars, the academy decided that it was necessary to reward those who make the characters we find most endearing, played by our favorite actors and actresses. Thus, the academy has added a new Best Cast category to the Oscars.

According to Variety, Bill Kramer, Executive Director of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, had these words to say about this new category, and we couldn’t agree more:

“Casting directors play an essential role in filmmaking, and as the Academy evolves, we are proud to add casting to the disciplines that we recognize and celebrate,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang. “We congratulate our Casting Directors Branch members on this exciting milestone and their commitment and diligence throughout this process.”

Although there are many conflicting opinions regarding how the best cast will be chosen, we are sure that it was a good decision by the academy to include this new category. Many on social media are happy that the work of cast directors is finally being recognized while others think it will be very subjective… but hey… what isn’t subjective at the Academy Awards?

New Oscar Categories

In addition to the new category for best casting, some members of the industry are pushing to add a category for stunts, since they are an almost essential part of many Hollywood productions. Let’s hope that by 2025 this recognition will be added and that it will always be chosen as objectively as possible (although we know that this does not stop :P)
