If you haven’t seen Godzilla Minus One yet, let me tell you that you are missing out on a gem, so much so that it became the first film in the history of this monster to reach the Oscars. The first film that was released about the so-called “mutant dinosaur” in Japanese culture was in 1954. Since then the character captivated the world and 38 have been released, not counting the one that will come out this year. Although they share a lot in the plot, each director has put their essence into it, but what Takashi Yamazaki did was brutal, he even received praise from Guillermo del Toro, a true monster fan.
“I think that rather than ‘watch’ this film, it is more appropriate to say that you are going to ‘live’ it. I hope you can truly experience the most terrifying Godzilla,” wrote the Mexican filmmaker.
Fortunately, we were already able to verify it. We left the room and the first thing we said was: “Damn, it’s art.” But don’t believe us, we are not film critics, we just love and are captivated by every part of the story and everything that makes it up, such as the setting and the special effects.

Godzilla: Minus One at the Oscars 2024
Although we were not so wrong, since, for the first time in all time, Godzilla stands out among the Oscar-nominated films, thanks to Minus One. Takashi Yamazaki’s film competes in the category of Best Special Effects against great productions such as The Creator, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Mission: Impossible, and Napoleon.
Whether it is a winner or not (which, if you ask our humble opinion, is the most deserving), it has our support, admiration, and applause, since, with barely 15 million dollars (it is the one with the smallest budget so far) and 35 animators, They achieved this work of art. Now we have to wait to see how Adam Wingard will surprise us with Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire, which will hit theaters in March 2024.
