Seriously America, can’t you think of something original? I thought this conversation was over when we all agreed we didn’t need a remake of Parasite because it was already perfect. Well, it seems that American producers think their audience won’t read subtitles and give them their own (often mediocre) versions of great productions and apparently it’s time for a Squid Game to receive that treatment (although it got global fame on its own).
These aren’t recent news. Almost a year ago it was announced that Netflix wanted to profit more from this story that left us all on the edge of our seats and were looking for producers and directors to remake the hit Korean series. On his website, Jeff Sneider reported that Netflix wanted none other than David Fincher to make his own version of Squid Game, and although we totally see him doing something as obscure and violent, do we really need it?

Allegedly, according to Production Weekly, Fincher is all in on the project, although he’s not listed as a director but as a producer. Specialized outlet World of Reel, reported that Fincher is already “quietly working” on the American version of Squid Game and Sneider added that the project “it’s most likely to happen.”
Although it’s still unclear when would this version come out, fans have noted that it wouldn’t be Fincher’s first rodeo in remakes as he famously directed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo saga and was allegedly linked to the remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Strangers on a Train (the project with Ben Affleck was eventually shelved).

All in all, the common thought on this is that no one needs a new version of Squid Game because it’s already great. It doesn’t need to be adapted to a different audience or culture because it shows a very universal phenomenon taken to the extreme. Among the most popular comments on this matter is that if Netflix is so eager to give Davind Fincher a great project, they should allow him to make the highly requested third season of Mindhunter!
Besides that, the OG Korean Squid Game will release its long-awaited second season this year and has already green-lighted a spin-off; so… there’s no need to see anything other than these.
