If you want to see a movie full of emotions and mystery, The Last Voyage of the Demeter is the best option… or so say, Guillermo del Toro and Stephen King. This film, directed by André Øvredal, shows a more terrifying version of the vampire created by Bram Stoker.
The story centers on the merchant ship Démeter, which is used to transport private cargo from Romania to London. Suddenly, strange events begin to occur that put the lives of the crew at risk.
“Based on a chilling chapter from Dracula, Bram Stoker’s classic novel. ‘The Last Voyage of the Demeter’ tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter, charged with transporting a private cargo of 50 unmarked wooden crates from Carpathia to London (…) Strange events befall the crew as they attempt to survive the ocean crossing, stalked nightly by a ruthless presence aboard the ship. When the Demeter finally reaches the shores of England, it is a charred and abandoned wreck. There is no trace of the crew,” reads the official synopsis.

Guillermo del Toro and Stephen King on The Last Voyage of the Demeter
From the start, the story is already enveloping just by reading a little of what it’s about, but knowing the opinion of two great experts on vampires, monsters, blood, and fantasy, we are convinced. One of them is Guillermo del Toro, who shared his experience on social networks: “I really enjoyed ‘The Last Voyage of the Demeter:’ beautiful, splendid and wild!!!”
While Stephen King noted that while he wasn’t as convinced about what this version of the ‘bloodsucker’ could offer him, “It’s a good time to tear your throat out. It reminded me of the best Hammer movies of the ’60s and ’70s.” So if you had your doubts, you can now go see it, safe in the knowledge that you’re paying for an expert recommendation.
