‘The Lord of the Rings’ is one of the great classics of literature that made it to the big screen thanks to Peter Jackson, who turned it into one of the most successful film trilogies with a total of 17 Oscars.
But before the first movie hit the screens in 2001, in 1978, director Ralph Bakshi ventured into a first attempt to bring J.R.R. Tolkien’s work to the cinema, which also served as inspiration for Jackson’s live-action adaptation.
Now, thanks to Artificial Intelligence (AI), we have a glimpse of what the characters would look like if the late Akira Toriyama, who passed away on March 1st, had drawn Tolkien’s characters for an anime series.
Although AI has made a strong impact almost everywhere and is viewed with skepticism in the entertainment industry, it is indeed a fun exercise to reimagine how animated characters would look in live-action and vice versa. Moreover, the results of how Frodo, Sauron, Gimli, Legolas, Gandalf, and Gollum turned out are fantastic, among others.
Additionally, a new animated movie from the saga is set to be released soon, titled ‘The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim’ directed by Ryan Grobins. The film will focus on this legendary king of Rohan, one of the most influential figures in the history of the Lords of the Horses, and a man who spent much of his reign under siege in a prolonged and costly war with the inhabitants of the Brown Lands and the corsairs of Umbar, who sailed up the river Isen. It is expected to be released on December 13th in the United States.
This story was written in Spanish by Daniel Matute.
