From DC To NYC

1567622169346 promise run. 001 - from dc to nyc, this run remembers the lives lost on 9/11This isn’t your average run. It has no winner, no second place, no third place. It is simply a run, but it’s a run that brings people together, from Washington, D.C. to New York City. The 9/11 Promise run was first put together in 2016 by a team of seven runners who pledged to run a relay race from the Pentagon to Ground Zero. Not only did they succeeded by running it on relay, but they also raised thousands of dollars to help fund several charities.

This years run is continuing raising funds and donating money to charities that support thousands of families that lost their loved ones in 2001. It covers 240 miles and, according to their website, it’s “a journey of remembrance and honor.” The journey begins at the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial and individuals will have a choice to run to Ground Zero or to bike to Shanksville, PA.

Joining costs only about $100 and each individual commits to raising $100 dollars to help charities like Tuesday’s Children, FealGood Foundation, American Red Cross, Operation Homefront, and Hope For The Warriors. A bicycle race is also being held as part of the 9/11 run.

Aside from the noble act, the run takes you through sites that are meaningful to the history of the United States: monuments in Washington D.C., the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Broad Street all the way to the City Hall in Philadelphia, beautiful campuses of the University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins, Princeton and Rutgers, and finally a run along the Hudson River before arriving at the 9/11 Memorial in New York. Indeed, it’s not your average race.
