Passenger Dies After Jumping from Icon of the Seas

Passengers and crew members of the world’s largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas, experienced dramatic moments after a passenger jumped from a height of 24 meters and died shortly after departing from PortMiami, Florida.

Although authorities did not reveal the identity of the deceased, it was known that it was a man who had already spent the first night of a week-long trip to Honduras. According to the Daily Mail, the man died immediately after jumping from the cruise ship.

However, the American newspaper reported that he died instantly after jumping into the ocean. It is unknown from which part of the cruise ship he jumped and the reasons that led him to do so.

The Cruise Ship Was Stopped for About Two Hours While the Man Was Rescued

The ship was stopped for about two hours while crew members assisted with the search and rescue mission, quickly notifying the U.S. Coast Guard.

Royal Caribbean, the company responsible for the Icon of the Seas, issued a statement, announcing that they were providing support and assistance to the loved ones of the guest who jumped and that they would not give further details out of respect and privacy for the family.

“Our care team is actively providing support and assistance to the guest’s loved ones during this difficult time. For the privacy of the guest and their family, we have no additional details to share,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the Coast Guard reported that the cruise ship deployed one of its rescue boats, located the man, and brought him back on board. However, once he was examined by the cruise ship’s medical staff, he was declared dead.
