The American Horror Story anthology has kept us on the edge of our seats for eight seasons, delving into some of the most common themes in horror. There’s been a murder house, an eerie asylum, a witch coven in New Orleans, a 1950s circus freak show, a haunted hotel, a house in one of the oldest colonies in the US, a cult obsessed with today’s politics, and the end of it all with the apocalypse. You would think there’s nothing else the series’ writers could come up with for a new nightmare, but they’ve been missing one of the most popular horror themes of all time (at least in film history), and that’s the slasher genre.
AHS: Apocalypse ended last year, and for months, fans of the anthology have been wondering what’s next in this disturbing universe. And well, the wait is over, since today, producer Ryan Murphy finally revealed a teaser for the next installment. The short video shows a scene that is familiar in the genre by now: a girl in the woods running from a mysterious character holding a knife. She manages to hide in some sort of cabin and gets behind the door, but the murderer shoves the knife in the door à la Jack Torrance right next to her. Then, the classic AHS font appears, revealing the name of the new season: AHS: 1984.

Clearly, we’re going back to the crazy eighties, and as fans of the series, we already know the recreation will be neat, the music vibrant, and the characters amazing. Why ’84? Well, that’s the year some of the most classic slasher films came out, including A Nightmare on Elm Street, Children of Corn, and Friday 13th: The Final Chapter.
Though we don’t really know who’s going to be in it, we can guess we’ll see some familiar faces. However, sadly for all of us, one of the favorites, Peter Evans, has already declared his journey with the series has ended, so we definitely won’t see his great acting this time. But hey, we might still have Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Billy Eichner, Billie Lourd, or who knows, maybe our Queen Jessica Lange comes back for more than just one episode.

Honestly, knowing the type of stories they create, and how they manage to turn really “done” themes into innovative narratives, I can’t wait to see how this particular slasher comes out.
