Barbie is not only one of the most awaited premieres worldwide, but for many, it represents our childhood, our hours of play, and, practically, our entire days those years when we were a little happier. Bringing Barbie to the big screen was a dream come true and, so far, the reception has been warm and with open arms.
First Reactions to Barbie
The world premiere of Barbie took place in Los Angeles last Sunday, and the whole city was filled with pink and lots of glitter. It was also the first public screening, and the first reactions have already come out on social networks, although more formal reviews from critics will arrive towards its release, which is on July 21.
Most of the comments have been extremely positive and, apparently, Greta Gerwig’s film is much better than we expected.
“Barbie took me by surprise, and I mean that in the best possible way. It’s funny, bombastic, and very clever. Greta Gerwig aims for the fences and scores a home run. Margot Robbie’s performance is great, and Ryan Gosling and SimuLiu are pure entertainment! The whole cast is brilliant!” is one of the comments.
That’s not all, some of the witnesses spoke of a ‘perfect’ script and top-notch performances.
“Barbie is a triumph. A pitch-perfect script backed by great performances, particularly from Ryan Gosling, turns what could be a simple studio comedy into a sharp commentary on our society that makes its nuances palatable to those who don’t take it at face value.”
Likewise, there are comments on how perfect the production was, the houses, the colors, and even the costumes, all to contribute to the fantasy that we will enter Barbie’s world.
“I’ve seen Barbie! The craftsmanship is incredible. In particular, the costume and production design includes next-level work that goes a long way in creating the sense that they really are Barbies, their dream houses, and their worlds come to life. As for the story, that’s where I’m a little more mixed. I think the film serves Margot Robbie’s Barbie and her journey especially well, but other characters experience important arcs that needed more screen time to delve into and explore to their fullest.”
Apparently, many of those lucky enough to see Barbie suggest that Ryan Gosling be nominated for an Oscar for his role as Ken and, not only that, that the film is undoubtedly one of the best in recent times… and, truth be told, we expected nothing less.
We need to see Barbie now!
