ChatGPT has become a ‘reliable’ aid for many, but not for Charlie Brooker, the creator of Black Mirror, who used the tool to write an episode of the sixth season and got the worst disappointment of his life. Charlie told in an interview for ‘Empire’ that he resorted to artificial intelligence in one of his chapters to see how useful it was in the world of film and television; however, as a result, he only got the worst episode in the history of this famous Netflix series.
“I played around a bit with ChatGPT. The first thing I did was type ‘generate episode of Black Mirror’ and something comes up that, at first glance, seems plausible, but at second glance it’s sh*t,” he said.
The funny thing is that the creator of a series where technology is the protagonist was not convinced by what artificial intelligence did. Not very Black Mirror of him! “All (ChatGPT) does is look up all the synopses of the ‘Black Mirror’ episodes and mix them together. Then, if you dig a little deeper, you’re like, ‘Oh, there’s really no original thought here’ (…) There’s no point in having an anthology show if you can’t break your own rules. Just kind of a nice cold glass of water in the face,” Charlie noted.

Which Episode of Black Mirror Did Brooker Write with ChatGPT?
The episode that was almost a failure because of ChatGPT, but thanks to Brooker and his team’s promises to be out of this reality, is ‘Beyond the Sea.’ The episode starring Aaron Paul, Kate Mara, and Josh Hartnett, introduces us to a mission impossible that is set in 1969, but alternative. Something Charlie describes as “sort of a dystopian past, present and future.”
“I first had the plot idea and then, at one point, I thought, ‘What if I set this in the late ’60s – that would be disruptive and cool!’ And then when you actually get to write it, you realize, ‘Oh, wait, if this is a different time and everyone in it is from that time, that really informs how the characters think and behave.’ But I don’t think there was a deliberate rejection of nostalgia, it was just a fun thing to do,” revealed the creator of a series that will blow your mind.

Why Is It Called Black Mirror?
Creator Charlie Brooker said he titled it Black Mirror because he loved the idea of “people watching the series on their TV or laptop, and when the episode ended, and the credits rolled, they would see themselves reflected on the screen.”
It would be a way of looking at ourselves in a black mirror that responds to us with our image, a metaphor for how technology can unleash the best and worst in ourselves.
