Wonka is one of the most anticipated films of 2023, and we are getting closer and closer to seeing Timothée Chalamet as the most passionate chocolatier. The production has been very secretive about the film, until now when they let us see a little of what we will enjoy in the cinema. One of the big surprises was Hugh Grant as a member of the Oompa-Loompas squad, and we’re not going to deny it, we love it!
Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa?
Wonka is set to be released around December 15. The highly anticipated film is the third adaptation of Roald Dahl‘s popular children’s book and will star Timothée Chalamet in the leading role.
The announcement that surprised us was the revelation that Hugh Grant will play an Oompa-Loompa. This happened at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where the first release of the trailer was presented.
The footage shows the Oompa-Loompa (Grant) trapped in a glass jar, and then Willy Wonka hires him to work in his factory. The trailer also reveals that the film will pay homage to Singing In the Rain, with Chalamet singing and dancing around a lamppost as he searches for magical recipes.
More Details on Wonka
Details on Wonka remain scarce; however, the preview has a glimpse of Olivia Colman and Sally Hawkins as the chocolatier’s mother. The production confirmed that it will not feature Charlie or other characters visiting the chocolate factory; instead, they will explore Willy Wonka’s origin. “It’s an origin story that explores the vivid and mystical beginnings of the young inventor before he became the Mozart of chocolate.”
On the other hand, Timothée himself revealed that for one of the scenes, he had to swim in a pool full of real chocolate, taking the character’s passion to the max. “Too much chocolate and still a dream come true. This is a Willy who is full of joy and hope, and desire to become the best chocolatier,” the young man revealed.
Although we will have to wait a few months to see Wonka, we are excited that it’s getting closer and we’ll soon see the official trailer with both stars!
