I first discovered Billie Eilish while singing and playing ukulele with my cousin. He heard me sing with a lot of emotion and told me I needed to check her out. When I heard her songs, it was an instant connection. The combination of her soft voice and the deep, heart-wrenching lyrics had me tearing up right away. Billie was born on December 18, 2001 and raised in Los Angeles, California since birth.
D – Dance and Depression
She has opened up about dealing with depression and mentioned that dancing and moving helped her cope with it; a bad injury made her quit dancing, and then music became the way of letting everything out.

E – “Don’t Smile At Me” EP
She was only 13 years old when her first EP came out. She and her brother Finneas O’Connell did it basically on their own, and recorded it in her brother’s tiny bedroom in their childhood home. Billie says: “We tried renting a studio in May, but it wasn’t as real, being in the tiny room was deeper.”

F – Finneas O’Connell
Billie’s brother has produced all of her music since day one. They also write together, and he has written a bunch of Billie’s songs on his own. Basically, he is also the mastermind behind this madness. H – Home-schooled
In the Apple Music documentary, she says that being home-schooled gave her the opportunity to focus on the things she wanted. Her mom says that it -“ allowed them to have this creative life.”
I – Injuries
She’s always had a lot of issues with leg and foot injuries. She has fallen on stage several times and is known for jumping and moving a lot on stage, resulting in painful experiences for her. Still, she has never canceled a show.

In 2018, she released a single featuring Khalid called “Lovely.” Both were emerging artists at the time.

Billie is on both seasons’ soundtracks of the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why with the songs “Bored” and “Lovely ft. Khalid.”
O – “Ocean Eyes”
Back in October 2015, her brother Finneas wrote “Ocean Eyes.” They recorded the song with Billie’s vocals, who was only 13 years old at the time.
In 2016, the song was meant to be featured in her dance routine, so they uploaded it to Soundcloud for her dance teacher to download it. They never expected it, but the song blew up and got more than 10 million hits in a short period of time.

P – Painful experiences
For the “When The Party Is Over” video, she can be seen drinking a black liquid from a glass (a mixture of xanthan gum and charcoal powder). Then, the liquid starts dripping down her eyes. She said: “Sh*t stung like a mf.”

Q – Queer community
In 2019, she released a song of her then upcoming album called “Wish you were gay.” She then said the song was about a guy and the queer community fans were a bit disappointed.
The song is really about Billie wishing that a boy who doesn’t like her back is gay aaaand the actual boy that Billie refers to came out to her recently. Lol.
R – Roma
She and her brother wrote a song inspired by Alfonso Cuaron’s film Roma called “When I was older,” and the cool thing is they used some of the movie’s background noises, like dogs barking, a barrel organ, and more to make the sample.

S – Singer-songwriter
Billie on being a singer-songwriter:
“I write music because I have a lot of things that are bunched up in my head, and I don’t know how to say it, my way of getting them out is writing them, even if they don’t become a song.”
Her favorite line of a song is from “Bellyache.” She says: “My brother was riffing this song, it went like: Sitting all alone, mouth full of gum in the drive way. My friends aren’t far in the back of my car are their bodies. And then I said, No! In the back of my car Lay their bodies, -I just killed them all. Then this sweet song about chewing gum in the driveway became a song about a young murderer.”
T – Tourettes Syndrome
She was diagnosed with Tourettes Syndrome and addressed the issue on social media after someone posted several video compilations to social media having facial tics.

Billie Eilish Debut Album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? was released on March 28, 2019. The album has a perfect sinister vibe, mixed with terror-pop sounds and a couple of heart-wrenching, painful songs, and you can listen to the whole album on all platforms.

X – XXXTentacion
On June 6, 2018 the rapper and Billie’s friend was shot and killed in Florida. She was on tour and wrote a song called “6.18.18,” as in the date he died.

Today’s new artists, including Billie have come and embraced something so particular about Gen-Zers. She just has a way of experimenting with uniqueness. At only 17 years old, she can trace an emotional path so deep that her fanbase understands her so well and as an artist and performer is hard to be transparent.
