U.S. authorities reported the discovery of possible human remains near the area in Newfoundland where fragments of the Titan submersible were found.
The remains will be analyzed to know if they belong to some of the five passengers who died in the implosion of the submarine.
“U.S. medical professionals will conduct a formal analysis of the possible human remains that have been carefully recovered from among the fragments at the incident site,” they said in a press release.
The study of possible remains of victims as well as parts of the ship is crucial to understanding the cause of this tragedy, the Coast Guard’s Jason Neubauer has explained.

Among the debris they collected were two titanium caps and a carbon fiber cylinder, as well as the submersible’s porthole with the window missing, the landing platform, and the final compartment.
Authorities said they will try to establish what caused the implosion and will make recommendations to avoid future accidents.
Here’s more on the recovery of the Titan remains.
