Tupac Shakur, the great 2Pac, was shot to death in 1996. This morning the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police announced the arrest of Duane Keith Davis, alias “Keffe D”, for his involvement in Shakur’s death. 2pac was leaving a boxing match in Las Vegas when he was shot and killed at the young age of 25. It was 1996. Since then, his death has sparked gossip and various inventions about the reasons. Much of the folklore that Hip Hop has become, those antagonistic games of gangs and neighborhood, were founded on that old battle between the West and the East sides.
For years, the investigation found Duane Keith Davis, pointing him out as an eyewitness to the homicide; he said he was in the front seat of his car. More than two decades later, Las Vegas police have searched the home of Davis’ wife and found an old diary written by him, in which he tells about gang life which includes the murder of 2pac. He also points to Marion ‘Suge’ Knight, former CEO of Death Row Records, as the other witness to the death. Curiously, Knight is in prison serving a sentence for involuntary manslaughter unrelated to this case.
About the material author of The Death of Our Rap pillar, Davis writes:
“I will keep it because of the street code.”
That is to say, he will not reveal his identity, but he adds other information that makes him not only a circumstantial witness, but also directly relates him to the execution of the homicide, for which this morning he has been arrested:
“It just came from the back seat, bro.”
What identity was he protecting at the time of writing this diary? And will he continue to protect him now that he’s been arrested?
