Emma Stone Would Actually Prefer Being Called By Her Real Name

For years, the name Emma Stone has established itself in Hollywood as one of the favorites, ranking among the most profitable and memorable titles of the film industry. Recently, this name appeared in media outlets worldwide after the actress won her second Oscar for Best Leading Actress for her role in the film “Poor Things” directed by Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos.

And although the name is already a registered trademark, the two-time Oscar winner stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that she would like to use her birth name, Emily, whenever possible. The outlet asked the star of films like “Cruella” and “La La Land” if she would correct someone who called her by her real name instead of Emma, to which she responded: “No. That would be very nice. I would like to be called Emily.”

The actress said that the people she works with call her Emilywhen they meet her, and pointed out that she chose her stage name “Emma Stone” because Emily Stone was already taken by another actress who was a member of SAG-AFTRA before her.

“Then I got scared a couple of years ago,” she told the outlet. “For some reason, I thought, ‘I can’t do it anymore. Call me Emily’. Nathan (Fielder) calls me Em, which is easier.”

Why Emma?

Regarding the origin of her stage name, the award-winning performer explained in November 2018 that when she was younger, she wanted to be called Emma after her favorite Spice Girl: Baby Spice, also known as Emma Bunton.

“When I was a kid, I was super blonde and my real name is Emily, but I wanted to be called Emma after Baby Spice and guess what? Now I am,” Emma said during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Continuing her story, she explained that: “It wasn’t necessarily because of her, but yes, in second grade, did I go to the teacher on the first day and ask her to call me Emma? Yes, I did.”

“And was it because of Emma Lee Bunton from the Spice Girls? Yes, it was,” she added.
