After the success of the Netflix series, ‘Baby Reindeer’, Jessica Gunning, who’s won the hearts of many by playing Martha, spoke openly about her sexuality.
The 38-year-old actress went to the ‘Reign With Josh Smith’ podcast where she shared that at the end of 2022 she ‘came out’ to her closest circle.

Jessica explains that her sexual orientation was for a long time ‘a little secret’ that she hid not only from her acquaintances but also from herself.
She remembers that she had a strange sensation in her body, which for a long time she related to her physical appearance. until one day she freed herself and accepted herself for what she is: a big, lesbian woman.
“I am surrounded by gays, like all my friends are gay, so it wasn’t that I was repressing anything, it was just that I didn’t think that I could be,” she said at the interview.

The actress made a curious analogy between her own story and one of the characters in the Netflix series.
Gunning shared that after coming out to her family about her homosexuality, she managed to sleep soundly and very peacefully.
Jessica recalled that during a time in her life she watched the iconic series ‘The L Word’ (an iconic production within the LGBTQ + community) with which she immediately identified, but she did not dare to be like any of the protagonists.
Jessica expressed that there were many times throughout her life that she noticed signs that she could be part of the LGBTQ+ community. For example, in 2019, she starred in the National Theatre production of When We Have Sufficiently Tortured Each Other, in which she had to kiss Cate Blanchett every night on stage.
