Miley Cyrus is in the eye of the storm after being sued for allegedly copying Bruno Mars’ song ‘When I Was Your Man‘ in her mega-hit ‘Flowers’. Yes, the same song that made her a hit everywhere and even earned her a Grammy.
According to TMZ, the lawsuit was filed by Tempo Music Investments, who claim that Miley was “overly inspired” by Mars’ 2013 classic.

Although Bruno isn’t directly involved in the legal mess, Tempo Music’s lawyers are not beating around the bush. They claim that the melodies, harmony and even the chorus of ‘Flowers’ are too similar to those of Mars’ song.
The lawsuit, which Rolling Stone obtained, says the following:
“It is undeniable based on the combination and number of similarities between the two recordings that ‘Flowers’ would not exist without ‘When I Was Your Man,’” the complaint continues. “With ‘Flowers,’ Cyrus, Hein, and Pollack have created a derivative work of ‘When I Was Your Man’ without authorization.”

Did Miley Really Rip Off Bruno Mars?
The funny thing is that this isn’t the first time the similarity between the two songs has been talked about. Many people had already noticed that ‘Flowers’ had lyrical similarities with Bruno Mars’ song, but at the time, it was interpreted as a kind of “response” from Miley Cyrus to Mars.
Adding spice to the matter is that Liam Hemsworth, Miley’s ex, had said in 2013 that ‘When I Was Your Man’ was his favorite Bruno song.
For now, we just have to wait and see if the court decides that Miley really went overboard with her “inspiration” or if this is all just a coincidence.
