After years of domination by minimalist interior design, it is time to say farewell. It was fun, but Maximalism will take it from here. Indeed, why shouldn’t we indulge in the aesthetic of excess? Maximalism is like a big fat juicy cheeseburger with double patty and secret sauce, a side of fries and onion rings and a vanilla milkshake. Minimalism is like a raw celery. Except Maximalism in interior design isn’t going to give you a heart attack, so why not just commend yourself to this style?
I like this, and that. And that, too. Why should I only keep one or the other. Both are cool. Here’s a list of pictures of interiors that do maximalism and do it right.
Maximalism isn’t afraid to overdo things. In fact, it encourages it. But maximalism isn’t about hoarding, nor is it about chaos, although it might seem like it at first glance. Like I said, Maximalism is indulging; it’s listening to guitar solos; it’s watching action movies with big explosions, confetti, and a thousand bottles of champagne.
Minimalism is bleak.
Maximalism is life.
Escape from the current news-induced state of depression into your own fantasy. Color, texture, extravaganza. That’s more like it.
Don’t listen to Marie Kondo. We all know less is not more. Less is a bore.
