One of your friends wrongs you in a way that can’t be forgiven. What do you do? a) cry your eyes out until you forget all about it b) go on a long rant on social media to expose the traitor c) all of the above, plus deleting all traces of this person in your life, including social media. Nowadays, we have it so easy, and yet it’s so difficult. While it’s true we can totally just erase these people from our lives with just one click, it’s also true that we have way more access to everybody’s life, and thus, if your new nemesis is friends with one of yours, you’ll definitely hear about them frequently.
We have all questioned how much social media impacts our daily lives and have probably been scared of the huge dependency we all have to it nowadays. Jobs, services, entertainment, information, everything is now linked to social media, including relationships and friendships. Most young people today don’t even know what life without this technology was like, and even for many us, who actually experienced it, it’s hard to remember. So, it makes me wonder: how did people in the past, say, our parents and grandparents, deal with trivial situations like the one I just mentioned? Better yet, what did people B.I. (before the internet) do when they wanted to erase someone from their lives?
We could go back to those times of duels and satisfaction demands, but that’s a little bit too much drama. Actually, we don’t have to go that far back to see that people did things similar to unfriending, and let me tell you, it’s actually quite funny and dramatic to watch. Let’s travel to the good old days of yore, when our direct ancestors actually erased from their photographs those who had wronged them in the most savage and hilarious ways.

Unfriend button? Puh-lease. Not only is this vintage technique effective, but it’s also therapeutical. Now you know, if a friend hurts you deeply, all you’ve got to do is find some scissors, knives, or needles, a good pen with permanent ink, and perhaps a new bunch of friends. Oh, also, remember to leave some of the person in question on the photo so you remember those back-stabbing a-holes and why you can’t have people like that in your life again.
