Bill Skarsgård, known for his notable roles in films such as It and John Wick 4, was arrested at the airport in Stockholm, Sweden, last October for possession of marijuana, according to the American media TMZ. He was sentenced Wednesday for the incident.
According to TMZ, the 33-year-old actor was arrested after 2.43 grams of cannabis were found in his possession. After three months of investigation, the justice of that country has sentenced him to pay 40,000 Swedish krona (approximately $3,836.65), after pleading guilty to the charges. He will not face jail time or probation, which means that everything will be behind him after paying the penalty.
According to the British media Express, in Sweden, marijuana remains illegal for both medical and recreational use, as noted by NordAN, the Nordic Alcohol and Drug Policy Network, a non-governmental organization dedicated to curbing alcohol and drug use since its creation in September 2000.
The organization highlighted that the Swedish cannabis law covers four main penalties: consumption, possession, manufacturing, and distribution.
NordAN said that “as individual substances are not regulated separately, penalties depend on factors such as the amount of possession of certain substances and their perceived dangerousness.” A particularly aggravated drug crime can carry a minimum of six years and a maximum of 10 years of preventive detention.
