If you didn’t know Chiara Ferragni, now you will surely not stop hearing her name, especially after the controversy in which she is involved. The Italian influencer was canceled after the local press reported that she must pay more than one million euros for failing to fulfill a sales promise. But first, let’s talk a little about her…
Who Is Chiara Ferragni?
Chiara is an influencer, businesswoman, and fashion designer, who was born on May 7, 1987, in Cremona, Italy. Her fame gained further recognition thanks to her blog The Blonde Salad, which she launched in 2009, where she addresses fashion and lifestyle topics. In addition, Chiara Ferragni has collaborated with numerous brands, appeared on the covers of important magazines, and participated in industry events. She also launched her footwear line, Chiara Ferragni Collection.
Her content on her social networks, especially on Instagram, where she has millions of followers, has helped consolidate her status as one of the most influential people in the world of fashion.
What Did Chiara Ferragni Do?
Chiara promoted, along with Balocco sweets, the sale of the typical Christmas dessert Pandoro, with the promise that the proceeds would be used to purchase medical supplies for the children of the Regina Margherita Hospital in Turin. Unfortunately, there was a sale, but the objective was never met, and the resources were not delivered to the institution, as confirmed by the AGCOM (Competition and Market Guarantee Authority).
According to the authorities, this donation, which the influencers boasted about, had already been made by Balocco a month ago for 50 thousand euros. For her part, the businesswoman would have raised more than one million euros with this false initiative.
“This practice has considerably limited the freedom of choice of consumers by increasing their sensitivity towards charitable initiatives, in particular those aimed at helping children affected by serious illnesses”, which represents “an unfair commercial practice, characterized by misleading elements ”AGCOM highlighted.
Chiara Ferragni Apologizes
After what happened became known, Chiara came out to clean her image, apologizing under the argument that there was a “communication error with her work team.”
“I have made a communication error. A mistake that I will cherish in the future, completely separating any charitable activity, which I have always done and will continue to do, from commercial activities,” she explained.
“I have always been convinced that the luckiest have a moral responsibility to do good. These are the values that have always driven me and my family. It’s what we teach our children.
We also teach them that mistakes can be made and that, when they occur, they must be admitted and, if possible, corrected and cherished. And that’s what I want to do now. “I apologize and make my gesture concrete: I will donate one million euros to the Regina Margherita Hospital to support the care of children,” she concluded.
