The British musician, a true icon of music and fashion, has often been described as extravagant for his unusual requests about what to wear and how to wear it. This time is no exception—because the Rocketman himself decided to turn his very own bones into jewelry.
While Elton hasn’t been in the headlines recently beyond updates about his health, the 78-year-old composer is doing well. Still, his recent revelation shocked many, as he admitted he wanted to do something reminiscent of the practices of ancient Egyptians.
Elton John’s Disturbing Jewelry Made From His Bones

In a recent interview, Elton opened up about his knee surgeries in 2023 and 2024, during which both of his kneecaps were removed. The procedures were successful and posed no risk to his health—but the unusual part came with what he decided to do next. Elton revealed that he asked his surgeon if he could keep his kneecaps. “At first she was hesitant, but she gave them to me,” he said.
After that, he contacted a jeweler with a unique request: “What would you do if I gave you my left and right kneecaps to turn them into whatever you want?” From there, the bizarre project was born. The jeweler baked, cleaned, and coated the bones in acrylic before setting them in gold to create a necklace and a brooch, which Elton has already worn at private events.
“My surgeon said they were the worst knees she had ever operated on. That hole in the kneecap looked like an Egyptian artifact, a talisman. I love making things that, in a thousand years, will still be the same,” Elton explained.

For now, the singer-songwriter has not publicly displayed his peculiar jewel, as he has only worn it in private gatherings. However, it’s highly likely that soon we’ll see Elton show it to the world—quite literally wearing a part of himself in the form of a necklace.
