Amid the Golden Globes euphoria, the specialized press reported that Jacob Elordi, star of the series Euphoria and, the most recent hit Saltburn, will replace Andrew Garfield as the emblematic Frankenstein monster in a new adaptation of Mary’s novel Shelley, directed and scripted by Guillermo del Toro and produced by Netflix.
A few months ago it was reported that Oscar Isaac would play Dr. Frankenstein, while Garfield would play the monster, but finally, Guillermo del Toro opted for the Australian. Mia Goth (Pearl) and Christopher Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) are also confirmed. With this new project, the director wants to start his own “monster saga” with Netflix, which could include more series or movies. According to journalistic reports, the Spider-Man star’s rejection of the project was due to schedule incompatibility, after delays caused by the writers’ strike.

“Once, he was going to do the Monster Universe with Universal, and he didn’t do it.” “We feel like ‘The Shape of Water’ is his version of a creature, so now he’s going to do his universe,” J said. Miles Dale, producer, and collaborator of Del Toro in an interview.
“In the last few movies, ‘Alley of Lost Souls’ and ‘Pinocchio,’ we’ve dealt with a father-son relationship,” Dale continues. “And Guillermo and I have lost our parents in recent years. So when you have a strong father figure, he becomes an important part of your life. This version of ‘Frankenstein’ follows that direction a bit, so we feel like it is the third part of Guillermo’s paternal trilogy. It is exciting, and when you read the script, it is very emotional and of course, very iconic,” he stated.
With this new project, Jacob Elordi would further validate his status as a rising star, following his outstanding performances in Priscila, and the aforementioned Euphoria and Saltburn.
