Hailey Bieber is done pretending.

In a new Vogue cover story published May 20, the 28-year-old Rhode founder opened up about what it’s really been like adjusting to postpartum life after giving birth to her and Justin Bieber’s first child, Jack Blues, in August 2024. And spoiler alert: it hasn’t been glamorous.

“Being postpartum is the most sensitive time I’ve ever gone through in my life,” she said. “Learning a new version of myself is very difficult.”

Add to that the online rumors, the trolls dissecting her marriage in real time, and the relentless pressure to “bounce back,” and it’s no surprise that Hailey describes the whole experience as a total mindf***.

“To be doing that all the while going on the internet every day and people being like, ‘They’re getting divorced,’ and ‘They’re this,’ and ‘They’re not happy,’ it is such a mindf***. I cannot even begin to explain it. It’s a crazy life to live.”

Hailey’s honesty didn’t stop at the postpartum phase. She also described the actual birth of baby Jack as the hardest thing she’s ever done—complete with 18 hours of labor, no epidural, and a postpartum hemorrhage that left her bleeding so badly she feared for her life.

Doctors eventually inserted a Jada device to stop the bleeding, but for a moment, Hailey was separated from her newborn son while her medical team scrambled.

“People die,” she said bluntly. “And the thought crosses your mind.”

And then, of course, the real work began: healing. Physically. Emotionally. Publicly.

A New Body, a New Self, and No Map for Either

Now months into motherhood, Hailey is still adjusting—and the pressure to reclaim her old body has only made things harder.

“When people talk about ‘bouncing back’—back where?” she asked.

Her hips are wider. Her boobs are bigger. Her clothes fit differently. And that’s just reality.

“Every day I have to talk to myself, like, ‘Hailey, you had a baby … You grew a human. You birthed a human. It’s OK. Give yourself grace. Give yourself time.’”

She’s also been forced to emotionally armor up against the toxic mix of postpartum hormones and online hate. Thankfully, Justin’s been through the meat grinder of fame long enough to offer solid advice:

“Baby, trust me, I’ve been here before many, many times. You’re not going to win. There is no winning.”

Why Hailey’s Honesty Matters

This isn’t just a confession from a celebrity mom. It’s a rare moment of honesty in a culture that expects new mothers to be glowing, grateful, and photo-ready within days of giving birth.

Hailey Bieber saying “It’s hard” is more radical than it should be.

Her experience, while shaped by fame and money, hits a nerve that’s familiar to countless new moms: the silence. The pressure. The erasure of self in the name of performing resilience.

The postpartum story isn’t always told. And when it is, it’s usually with a pastel filter and a vague caption. Hailey’s version is messier. More honest. And way more important.

So no, postpartum isn’t pretty. But it’s real. And Hailey Bieber just gave it a voice.
