The abuse allegations against Russell Brand revived an interview that could point to Katy Perry knowing the dark truth that her ex-husband was hiding, years before the allegations against him became public. In a 2013 interview for Vogue magazine, Perry revealed some personal details about her marriage to the comedian by describing their relationship as “controlling” and “really hurtful.”
The “Firework” singer explained that when she and Brand got married, on October 23, 2010, she did it being deeply in love with the actor, but their marriage was changing because he began to feel threatened by her independence.
“At first, when I met him, he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men want an equal, but then they get that equal, and they say, ‘I can’t handle equal.’ ‘ He didn’t like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really painful, and he was very controlling, which was annoying,” she mentioned.
What caught the most attention, however, was the part where the singer said she lived with the guilt of the split until she “found out the real truth” about Brand. However, it is important to highlight that until today, it is unknown if Perry was actually referring to the alleged abuse, as the star has not issued any kind of comment on the matter.

Russell Brand Accused of Abuse
Russell Brand was recently accused by four women of abuse and physical and emotional abuse. According to an investigation conducted by The Times, The Sunday Times, and the television channel Channel 4, the assaults would have been committed by the actor between 2006 and 2013, a time when Brand was in a relationship with Katy Perry.
Several of the women claimed to have suffered violence from the British actor, who manifested a “controlling, abusive and predatory” behavior. One of the victims indicated that when she was only 16 years old, Russell removed, without her consent, the condom while they were having intercourse and later choked.
“I was pushing him, and he wouldn’t back off at all. In the end, I had to punch him really hard in the stomach to get him off me. I was crying, and he said, ‘Oh, I just wanted to see your mascara run anyway,'” one of the women explained in her testimony.
Before the accusations were revealed, Brand wanted to clear his name, denying having committed any type of aggression; however, the last word will be for the authorities, who will have to investigate and determine the guilt of the famous actor.
