Until very recently, Kim Kardashian’s life focused on reality TV and her children, as a successful entrepreneur who has been able to take advantage of her family’s fame. That’s about to change very soon, as the socialite has more important things to do, like dedicating herself completely to her career as a lawyer.
Kim, who has been studying law for several years, stated that becoming an attorney is her “life’s most meaningful work” and that she hopes to make a difference in the country’s prison system.
“I would be just as happy being an attorney full-time,” she said during a panel at the 2023 TIME100 Summit. “There’s a lot that’s always on TV and a lot that’s always out there, but I think my friends and my family know that we really cherish a lot of our private times.”
Kim Kardashian has compared her life, constantly in front of the cameras, to something like Truman Show, the movie starring Jim Carrey in which a man is seen on television by millions of people, and whose life is closely followed by all of them.
Kim’s reasons for stepping away from reality TV would have to do with her desire to have a more private life again (after all, she has just gone through a dramatic divorce from Kanye West and a breakup of her relationship with Pete Davidson). But also to practice her career as a lawyer.
“I always joke with my mom — who’s my manager — I say, ‘Kim K. is retiring, and I’m just going to be an attorney,’” she said.
Kim Kardashian, Lawyer
In 2017, Kim began working with Alice Marie Johnson, a woman who had been imprisoned since 1996. Johnson was sentenced to life imprisonment for a first-time drug offense, a minor crime for which she would nevertheless spend the rest of her life in prison.

Kim worked closely with her and personally spoke with Donald Trump, then the President of the United States, to secure Johnson’s release. She was released from prison in 2018.
Shortly thereafter, in 2019, Kim revealed that she was studying to become a lawyer. Her experience with the US prison system opened her eyes to the injustices that continue to occur within it. Kim was also inspired by her father, the late Robert Kardashian, who was the attorney in the infamous O.J. Simpson trial.
