A public and dramatic feud has erupted between alt‑pop artists Lana Del Rey and Ethel Cain, marking a rare—and tense—moment in the indie scene.
There have been rumors/leaks of a Lana Del Rey song called “All About Ethel” for over a year now, but nothing solid materialized until Del Rey herself teased the song in an Instagram Reel posted late at night on August 13. “Ethel Cain hated my Instagram post,” Del Rey coos on the first line of the track, which plays as she sits in a car singing along. The chorus repeats the line “The most famous girl in the Waffle House,” a reference to a memorable 2022 New York Times profile of Cain by Popcast host Joe Coscarelli titled “The Most Famous Girl in the Waffle House.” The post is captioned “TRACK 13” and tags Del Rey’s common co-conspirator, Jack Antonoff.

On August 13, 2025, Lana Del Rey dropped a snippet of what appears to be a diss track—possibly titled “All About Ethel”—via Instagram. The teaser opens with the provocative line:
“Ethel Cain hated my Instagram post”
It also repeats the phrase “the most famous girl in the Waffle House,” referencing a New York Times profile of Cain, and harkening back to Del Rey’s own well-known Waffle House stunt.
Shortly after, Cain took to her Instagram Stories and posted:
“Update: Lana Del Rey has blocked Ethel Cain on Instagram.”

Body-shaming Accusations
In a comment on Pop Base, Lana elaborated on her reasons for calling it out. She accused Cain of previously posting graphic side-by-side images of Del Rey next to “unflattering creatures and cartoon characters,” accompanied by comments on her weight—behavior she described as disturbing and intrusive.
Comparisons between the two artists have circulated for years, especially after Cain’s 2022 album Preacher’s Daughterdrew sonic parallels to Del Rey. Cain had disliked these reductive comparisons, calling them lazy, and expressed frustration over being constantly likened to Del Rey.
There are also rumored connections involving Lana’s ex, Jack Donoghue, who Cain has been photographed with—though the nature of their relationship and whether it factored into the feud remains speculative.
