Ricky Martin caused great controversy after announcing his divorce from Jwan Yosef after seven years together, which does not mean that he has closed the doors to love; on the contrary, “I do see myself in another relationship.”
The singer came clean and, for the first time, revealed more details about their separation, where he reiterated that their relationship came to an end on good terms and that they had already been planning it for a while.
“We looked into each other’s eyes and smiled and hugged and went over our good times as well as the bad and cried together, but we also laughed. But now, we are better than ever,” he explained in an interview for Telemundo Puerto Rico.
Planned Divorce…
He confessed that when he and Jwan Yosef announced their separation, they had already gone through a mourning process and were convinced it was the best thing for both of them. “When the public found out that we were getting divorced, we had already gone through a pretty solid mourning process. We were adamant that this was what had to happen for his sake, for my sake, and our children,” he said.
He also stressed that their children never witnessed any argument between them, there was not even a hint by which they could suspect that they were getting divorced. “My kids never saw a fight between me and Jwan (…) That’s why it’s like are they going to get divorced, are they going to separate, how? Because we solved the differences with a good conversation in our room.”
Ricky Martin joked about how well it ended with Jwan, even suggesting (ironically) that they should write a book together to advise on how to get divorced. “It’s been wonderful. I even told Jwan that we should write a book on how to get divorced. In fact, if anyone is getting divorced, come and talk to us because we’ve already got this squared away. It has been much easier than we thought, but we have done it with time and calm,” he added.
Ricky Martin Is Open to Love
Ricky Martin assured that although he must complete this process, he hasn’t closed the doors to love, because he likes life as a couple. Still, for the moment, he will dedicate himself to enjoying his bachelorhood.
“Calmly, it was seven or eight years (with Jwan). I’m going to have a good time, I want to have a good time, let’s take it easy, but I do see myself in another relationship. I’m not talking about the near future, but I love being in love. I like being in a couple, I like getting up in the morning, the morning kiss, the breakfast, the laughter, the complicity,” he said.

In 2017, Ricky Martin revealed to the whole world his relationship with painter Jwan Yosef, whom he met in 2015. “We talked about art, nothing sexy. It was all about art and life in general. Then I traveled to London, and finally, we met,” he said in an interview.
He fell so much in love that he was determined, almost from the first instant, that he wanted to marry him. Soon after, he proposed. In late 2017, the couple joined their lives in a private ceremony with 15 people attended by Ricky Martin’s two sons, Matteo and Valentino.
During the six years they were together, they formed a family with the singer’s two children and then their little ones Lucia and Renn Martin Yosef, who they conceived thanks to surrogacy.
