Simone Biles is the most decorated U.S gymnast in Olympics history and yet what people is worried about is her hair.
Sometimes it seems like we haven’t learned anything over the years, because it’s 2024 and we’re still demanding and asking racialized people for explanations for things like their hair.

And although it seems that what they’re worried about is fashion and in this case style because she’s an artistic gymnast, the truth is that the comments are more full of racism than we think.

Simone Biles Responds to Hair Criticism
What does Simone Biles’ hair have to do with her performance in gymnastics? That’s right, nothing. That’s why we shouldn’t talk about it. Yet here we are, in the middle of 2024 talking about how Simone had to come out and give explanations.
And she also nailed it by doing it.

It was on her Instagram stories that the multiple Olympic medal-winning gymnast clarified some points about the criticism towards her hair and although it wasn’t necessary, she explained something about the reasons why her hair looks the way it does without going into depth.
“Don’t come for me about my hair. IT WAS DONE but bus has NO AC and it’s like 90000 degrees. Oh & a 45 min ride,” she captioned the video while we saw her with a hand-fan. “Gonna hold your hand when I say this 💋 next time you wanna comment on a black girls hair. JUST DON’T,” she added.

In fact, she has talked about this more than she should, as she has already commented in some interviews that people criticize her for her “not professional” hair.
“Most of the backlash we get is from our own community, which is unfortunate. I don’t really care if my edges aren’t smooth,” Simone Biles said in an Elle interview.
So there you have it, if you wanted to talk about Simone Bile’s hair or black women’s hair in general, talk about how you cannot talk about it and mind your own hair.
