On January 25, Sofia Vergara‘s new series premieres and we are eager to see it. If you have been under a rock and know what we are talking about, we tell you that we are talking about Griselda, the series that stars the Colombian and is a production from Netflix.
The series tells the story of Griselda Blanco, a Colombian drug trafficker who establishes one of the most profitable cartels of the time, and whose protagonist is played by Sofia Vergara herself. This is the reason why Griselda’s family has decided to take action on the matter and sue Sofia and Netflix since they do not have image rights for the series. Griselda Blanco’s family tried to prevent the series from coming to light, however, the official Netflix X account has published that there are less than 12 hours left until the premiere of the miniseries.
Griselda’s son, Michael, assured that he had several interviews with some boys who were interested in his mother’s life and had the intention of bringing the story to the screen or even turning it into a book. According to TMZ, he comments that these interviews took place from 2009 to 2022. Michael claims that these guys told him that they would start selling the project to Hollywood in 2016 and that at some point they presented the idea to a producer before even Netflix participated, and that later, he learned that Netflix was interested in the project, but that they would not use any details from the interviews they had with him previously.
Michael affirms that this new show starring Sofia Vergara has details that he provided in interviews but that he never saw a single dime of the production. That’s why now, he and his siblings are suing, alleging that Netflix produced the series at the expense of his family, using his image and violating their rights.
What Sofia Vergara Thinks About Griselda
According to an interview rescued from the ET site, Sofia Vergara commented this regarding Griselda Blanco:
“I am Colombian. I am a mother. I’m an immigrant. I was fascinated, because I grew up in Colombia in this era, and I never heard about a woman that was a head of a cartel. There were girlfriends, there “They were wives, but not this woman who was competing, and getting to the level of these men. I was blown away.”
“We didn’t want to romanticize her or make her a hero, because she wasn’t,” she added. “But no matter what anyone says, this was a very interesting character.”
Eric Newman Responds About the Lawsuit
“We had a very specific story we wanted to tell,” he said of Griselda. “I believe we told it, and I don’t think it in any way prevents someone else from telling their own version of it.”
