Sunny Hostin, co-host of ‘The View’, asserted that the eclipse, last Friday’s earthquakes in New York, and the cicada mating season are connected by a common theme: climate change.
On Monday, Hostin claimed that the 4.8 magnitude earthquake in New York City, which is not typical for the area, the April 8 eclipse, and the simultaneous emergence of two different cicada broods are abnormal occurrences, all attributed to climate change.
“All those things together would maybe lead one to believe that either climate change exists or something is really going on,” she said.

Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar quickly countered that global warming has nothing to do with these events. When Hostin mentioned the earthquake, Behar argued that it couldn’t be related to climate change because earthquakes are underground phenomena, to which Hostin retorted, “How about the warming of the planet?”
Regarding the eclipse, Goldberg mentioned that eclipses are predictable events and aren’t linked to global warming or climate change. She also dismissed Hostin’s assertion about the cicadas, stating that their emergence occurs every 17 years, not every 100 as Hostin claimed. At one point in the conversation, even Alyssa Farah Griffin joked that the earthquake was caused by Trump, as the epicenter was near the former president’s location.

Reaction to Sunny Hostin’s Comments
Social media users expressed outrage, even calling the show’s participants ignorant. Comments such as
“She is embarrassing herself. But, this is the view. They’re all ignorant,” “How are they still on tv! They are all a joke!!,” and “Sunny was a little dim. She was eclipsed by her own stupidity” reflect the sentiment online.
