Taylor Swift released her new album “The Tortured Poets Department” and surprised fans with more than one detail. While many assumed the album would be directed towards Joe Alwyn, it turned out to have more than one reference to the singer’s ex, Matty Healy, a member of the band The 1975.
In one of the verses of the song “Fortnight,” Taylor mentions struggling with alcoholism. Whether this is true or just a way of expressing feelings remains uncertain, but fans were completely surprised by the assertions in this song. Alongside the multiple references to Matty in this song, Taylor admits that she is a functional alcoholic:
“I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me / I was a functioning alcoholic ’til nobody noticed my new aesthetic. All of this to say, I hope you’re okay / But you’re the reason / And no one here’s to blame / But what about your quiet treason?”

Is Taylor Swift Really an Alcoholic?
Some may reference when Taylor seemed to be having a great time at Super Bowl 58, supporting her current boyfriend Travis Kelce, but we don’t believe any of this is relevant. It’s worth noting that Taylor does not make any further reference to this during the song or any other song on the album, so we’re not sure if she’s being literal or metaphorical. I believe it’s just a way of expressing her feelings, and I don’t think she’s admitting to being a functional alcoholic as the lyrics of the song state.
What’s interesting is that we have seen her drinking a lot lately, and according to TMZ, Taylor confessed to Time magazine that for her “The Eras” tour, she had to let go of many of her fraternity boy habits and adopt a more sober lifestyle to prioritize her work. The media is also criticizing her because not only was she seen drinking alcohol at the Super Bowl or various football games supporting her boyfriend Travis, but also during her recent vacation in the Bahamas with her boyfriend, she was seen in the sea holding a cocktail, and many say she was also seen drunk at Coachella.

What do you think? Do you believe Taylor’s song lyrics are literal, or is it just a metaphor, and she’s not an alcoholic?
