Taylor Swift finally addressed her silence after her Vienna concerts were abruptly canceled, explaining that it wasn’t about “withholding” but for an entirely different reason.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Taylor Swift expressed her deep disappointment over the cancellations of her show in Vienna after two men were arrested on Wednesday in Vienna, Austria, for planning attacks at The Eras Tours.

“Losing our Vienna shows was heartbreaking,” she wrote. “The reason behind the cancellations brought a new level of fear and overwhelming guilt, knowing that so many fans had made plans to attend.”
Swift took a moment to express her gratitude to the authorities, saying, “Thanks to their efforts, we mourn the loss of concerts and not lives.” She explained that her silence was intentional, choosing to wait until the European leg of her Eras Tour was over to prioritize the safety of her fans.
“I want to make it clear: I won’t speak publicly about something if I believe it could incite those who wish harm on my fans,” she added.
“In situations like this, ‘silence’ isn’t about withholding, it’s about exercising caution and waiting for the right time to speak. My focus was on completing our European tour safely, and I’m relieved to say we did that,” she explained.

The Vienna concerts, scheduled to begin on August 8, were canceled by concert organizer Barracuda Music after arrests related to the terror plot were made too close to showtime. Authorities revealed that a 19-year-old suspect had intended to target fans outside the Ernst Happel Stadium using knives or homemade explosives, aiming to cause mass casualties. Following the cancellations, Swift’s team did not respond to numerous media inquiries, and her social media went quiet.

Three suspects were arrested: the 19-year-old and a 17-year-old on August 6, and an 18-year-old on August 8 and reportedly had ties to the Islamic State group and al-Qaida. The 19-year-old’s lawyer has dismissed the accusations as an overreaction, accusing Austrian authorities of exaggerating the situation to justify new surveillance measures.
Thousands of Swifties from around the globe had flocked to Vienna for the concerts.
In her Instagram post, Swift also reflected on the conclusion of her European tour, particularly the five-night stint at London’s Wembley Stadium. This experience, she said, influenced her decision to delay speaking out, and she described it as “a surreal, dream-like sequence.”
“I knew I had to channel all my energy into ensuring the safety of nearly half a million fans attending the London shows,” she wrote the day after her final Wembley performance. “My team and I worked closely with stadium staff and British authorities each day to achieve that goal.”

The London shows followed a tragic incident in Southport, England, where three young girls were killed in a knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga event. The victims were Bebe King, aged six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, aged seven, and nine-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar.
The attack occurred on July 31, 2024, and the suspect, 17-year-old Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, has been charged with their murders.
The reason behind the attack is still unclear, and the incident has led to significant public outcry and protests.
In response to the Southport attack, Swift expressed her shock and profound sorrow, stating she was “utterly lost for words on how to convey my sympathies to the families.” Reports indicate that Swift met with some survivors backstage in London. King Charles has also met with the families of the victims to offer his condolences.
