Tyler Perry, one of the most influential and financially powerful figures in American entertainment, is facing explosive allegations from actor Derek Dixon, who has filed a $260 million lawsuit accusing the mogul of sexual assault, coercion, and retaliation.
Filed in Los Angeles, the lawsuit claims that Perry used his position as showrunner and studio owner to create a “coercive, sexually exploitative dynamic” after promising Dixon a path to stardom on his TV shows The Oval and Ruthless. According to the filing, when Dixon rejected Perry’s alleged advances, he was met with escalating harassment and professional threats.
“Mr. Perry made it clear to Dixon that if Dixon ignored Perry or failed to engage with the sexual innuendos, Dixon’s character would ‘die’ in the next season,” the suit reads.

According to the complaint, Perry first met Dixon in 2019 at an event for Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. What started as encouragement and offers of small roles quickly turned into a series of alleged quid pro quo scenarios—where Dixon was allegedly told that rejecting Perry’s sexual advances could cost him his job, screen time, and future work.
The lawsuit details several alleged assaults, including one incident at Perry’s home in which Dixon claims he was groped while asleep in a guest room. In another, he describes being pinned against a trailer wall and fondled on the set of The Oval. The filing includes what are described as sexually suggestive messages from Perry and claims Dixon attempted to rebuff them.
Dixon eventually walked away from both acting roles and a writing offer from Perry, citing persistent harassment and fear of professional retaliation.

Tyler Perry’s Response: “A Scam”
Perry has denied all allegations. His attorney, Matthew Boyd, called the lawsuit “a scam” and a “shakedown attempt.”
“This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be nothing more than setting up a scam,” Boyd said.
“Tyler will not be shaken down and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail.”
But the lawsuit paints a broader, more troubling picture, comparing Perry’s alleged behavior to that of disgraced entertainment figures like Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, R. Kelly, and Diddy.
