In her TikTok videos, Katie detailed how she and her boyfriend, Brandon, discovered the mysterious carpet while attempting to put up a fence. “My neighbor died in her house the day we moved in,” Katie said in one of her videos, adding that it was all a little too spooky for comfort. Her followers immediately jumped to conclusions: Could there be a body in the rug?
As the online buzz grew, Katie was urged by her followers to call the police. Columbus police arrived at her home, initially unsure whether to investigate further. After some deliberation, they left it up to Katie to keep digging and contact them if anything alarming came up.

The investigation, though, took an unexpected turn when Katie was later contacted by the homicide department. Soon enough, detectives and cadaver dogs were at her home, their attention fixed on the area around the rug. The dogs sat on the spot—often an indication that they’ve detected human remains—sending TikTok into a frenzy. Katie documented every step, sharing the police presence and her concerns that her backyard might hold something more sinister than she had imagined.

But what did they find after digging? As it turns out: not a body, but a rubber mat. Katie, both relieved and bewildered, shared her thoughts with her followers. “They found a mother-effing rug with some rubber,” she said, laughing at the absurdity of the situation. While the police have since left, the mystery around her haunted house remains unresolved. “Who broke my laptop? What even made the dogs hit?” she questioned.
