Miss Universe: Who’s Mia Le Roux?

Mia le Roux is the first deaf woman to win Miss South Africa. In her acceptance speech that became a trending topic on social media, the young woman said she hopes her victory will help those who feel excluded from society to achieve their dreams.

“I want to help promote inclusivity where I can, to put people on an equal footing,” she stated.

Le Roux is 28 years old and was diagnosed with profound hearing loss when she was just one year old. As a result, she was fitted with a cochlear implant that helps her perceive sound. Mia explained that it took her more than two years to be able to say her first words thanks to the famous speech therapy.
