Stunning images of Africa blanketed in snow recently flooded social media, sparking a conversation that many might have overlooked.
Hello! I'm Fernanda. I make indie music, I love film/analog pictures and I really like cinema. I enjoy talking about social issues and meeting new people while traveling. Three fun facts about me: I love Mexican Lucha Libre, I can't whistle, and I practice MMA.
Is this a result of climate change? Are the animals safe? And most importantly, how common is it for snow to fall in Africa?
Instagram user Yvette Carmen shared images of the Aquila Private Game Reserve safari covered in white. According to her post, the video was taken on July 8th. It obviously left us with many questions.
Is it normal for snow to fall in Africa?
The answer is yes. According to African Folder, winter in the world’s second-largest and second-most populous continent extends from June to August, offering opportunities for snow enthusiasts to experience the thrill of snowfall on the continent.

Regions like Lesotho, Morocco, Uganda, and Tanzania are no strangers to this type of weather, with temperatures dropping as low as -29 degrees Celsius.
However, it is true that climate change has put species and environments worldwide in jeopardy.
Even the renowned Mount Kilimanjaro is facing its own crisis. According to a UNESCO report, the snow on the mountain is expected to vanish by 2050, as will glaciers in the Alps and Yosemite National Park in the US, despite efforts to combat climate change.
“Most people don’t realize how often it snows in some places. It snows in Los Angeles, Hawaii, South Africa. Certain parts of California get more snow than anywhere else in North America. Glad to add South Africa to this list. Interesting to me if no one else,” commented a user.
Undoubtedly, the images of snow coexisting with majestic animals are fascinating and draw attention to the life that species lead in their ecosystems.
