Dipika has become an international reference by participating in Miss Universe 2023 as the first candidate for the plus-size crown. For this reason, in recent months, the young woman has been the victim of discrimination in social networks.
Who Is Jane Dipika Garrett?
Jane Dipika Garrett is a nursing student from Kathmandu, and a few months ago, she beat 20 other contestants to win the Miss Nepal title. Her greatest strengths with the judges were her charm and her advocacy for mental health; the above, regardless of her looks.
“As a curvy woman who does not meet certain beauty standards, I am here to represent curvy women, who struggle with weight gain and face hormonal issues. I believe that there is no one type of beauty standard, but that every woman is beautiful just the way she is.”
During her presentation at the preliminary round of Miss Universe 2023, Miss Nepal pointed out that, despite the criticism for her weight, she is a genuine woman who is not swayed by outside opinions. Therefore, she said that among her qualities is the courage she has shown since she was a child to face the world unabashedly.
“It has been very difficult for me to get here. That’s why I feel very proud of my growth as a person and as a woman. If I had to tell you what is the superpower I want to have in life, it would be telekinesis. In a word, I describe myself as a visionary. Also, I can’t spend too much time without reading and the most important thing for me is to dedicate as much time as possible to my family and loved ones”.
Miss Universe’s Historic Changes
Last year, the Miss Universe organization made an unprecedented modification to its selection process by allowing married women and mothers to participate in this year’s competition.
The rule change is one of the biggest in the history of Miss Universe, which previously only allowed single women between the ages of 18 and 28 who had never been married and never had children to participate.
