An Academy Award is one of the most coveted prizes any actor, director, or creative inside the film industry could receive, but there have been actors and actresses that have never ever received a single nomination despite their great acting work. This makes us question if a golden statuette defines their work and passion for art.
Certainly not, that’s why we enlist some awesome actors and actresses with a long career and films that catapulted them into the spotlight but haven’t got any Academy nomination.
Jim Carrey
Besides of being a comedy superstar, he has show that he’s able to not only make the audience laugh but also cry. He has appeared in critically adored films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Truman Show.
Although these films have received international critical acclaim, even getting six Golden Globe nominations and having won two, the Academy hasn’t considered Carrey as one of its nominees.
Jamie Lee Curtis
Psycho’s main character’s daughter has never been nominated for an Oscar despite being the main character on one of the most important slasher movies, Halloween.
She has also appeared on some comedy classics like “Freaky Friday” with Lindsay Lohan, “Fierce creatures” but none of her works has made her succeed in getting a nomination.
Steve Martin
Even though this actor gave an opening monologue in the 2003 Oscars, as well in 2010 and even hosted the ceremony, he has never got a nomination for these awards; however, in 2013, he received an Honorary Award at the Governors Awards.
The Governors Awards is a gala organized by the Academy itself that awards honorary statuettes to influential figures in the history of cinema.
He could have been nominated in the acting and screenwriting categories with his classics such as Roxanne or L.A. Story, but he didn’t receive any consideration.
Demi Moore
She has several memorable performances like Indecent Proposal, Ghost, Moral Thoughts, and is considered one of the most important actresses of the 90s; however she seems not to be that important to the Academy, cause has never been nominated for an Oscar.
A Few Good Men, one of the films where she was the co-star, was nominated for the Oscar for best picture, as well as Ghost where Whoopi Goldberg played an important role for the development of the film, won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
Bruce Willis
Bruce has already won two Emmys and has acted in movies that once again were adored by the critics like The Sixth Sense.
He gained recognition as an action hero in the Die Hard movies, but has never been into the nominees lists and even fired his agent after losing an Oscar-Winning role for The English Patient that ended up being for Willem Dafoe. Bruce says he passed on the film after being talked out of working with director Anthony Minghella by his agent, and that was the main reason Willis’s agent was fired.
